In the fall of 2003, the then line-up of Adam West (Jake Starr, Steve, Dan-O Deckelman, and Ben Brower; and let us not forget their trusty road manager Mr. Connery) blitzkrieged through Europe for the fourth time in their career… this time to support their classic album “God’s Gift to Women.” This tour was a solid, brutal, six (6) weeks long and took them from Lisbon, Portugal, to Tampere, Finland, and all places in between. And I do mean ALL places. No other European tour took its toll on the band more than this tour with its many ecstatic highs and heart-wrenching lows. No need to go into details… if you’ve ever been in a touring band, you know what I mean. In any case, one of those ecstatic highs was stopping in Montpellier, France, at the Subsonic Club, which is run by the two coolest cats in France: Sylvie Martin and Marc Hacquet. Subsonic is a relatively small club located (and almost completely hidden) on a narrow-as-fuck side street behind one of Montpellier’s train stations. On that night in October 2003, Subsonic was ludicrously packed, Adam West put on a phenomenally energetic show, and (thank the gods!) Marc recorded us in all our rock-n-roll glory. What I mainly remember from that absurdly sweaty night was how tight and powerful the band was. We had been on the road for a while and we knew that Subsonic would be a killer show, so we were in prime form. I think you can hear how stoked we are from these four songs culled from the tapes: “God’s Gift to Women,” “Hotsy Totsy,” “Hot Chocolate,” and possibly my favorite Adam West song “Sixth Son of a Seventh Son.” We delivered the rock, the audience loved it, and off we went the next morning to do it again and again. Merci, Bon Soir indeed!     ~Jake Starr (December 2010)
